Senior Legal PA / Secretary - Family Law

A modern and innovative family law team in Canberra are seeking to appointment a senior and experienced legal PA / secretary with at least 5 years of specific family law expertise.

The firm offer a vibrant, client focused working environment, beautiful offices and the opportunity to work alongside a team of some of the most highly accredited lawyers in the country.

This position will be to offer family law expertise when supporting lawyers within the firm. The chosen candidate will be expected to be completely au fait with a range of duties relating to family law including producing briefs to counsel, preparing affidavits / subpoenas, collating witness statements, completion of relevant forms, preparing applications for consent orders, submitting notices, preparing responses to divorces / applications and preparing financial statements. The expectation would be that this experienced secretary would be able to draft and prepare these documents, from knowledge and precedents on behalf of the lawyers, for their approval.

Other standard PA and secretarial duties will apply such as occasional audio typing from dictation, utilization of the case management system, billing on all matters, extensive online diary management and liaising with clients on a day to day basis (in person, via telephone and via email).

As a senior member of the team, the chosen applicant may also be expected to offer mentoring and some supervision to junior secretaries and paralegals within the office, in order to assist in the development of their specialist family knowledge.


  • Legal PA / Secretary with at least 5 years of family law experience
  • Ideally with experience supporting partners
  • Ability to audio type at 65wpm+
  • Ability to use case management systems competently
  • Experience producing documents from knowledge / precedents, without the need for dictation
  • Ideally some supervisory experience of more junior team members
  • Excellent client care skills and the ability to deal with distressed clients / sensitive matters professionally and diplomatically
